Our 2024 Winter Preview presents many opportunities to foster a learning and relational context where spiritual growth can occur. Let us begin the journey this year by studying the Scriptures. In 2 Peter 1:5 we are asked to ‘make every effort to add to our faith.’ One of the aspects of growing in faith is adding to our knowledge. New Testament scholar Richard Bauckham explains that the Greek word used here for knowledge ‘…is the wisdom and discernment which the Christian needs for a virtuous life and which is progressively acquired. It is practical rather than purely speculative wisdom.’ What we are aiming for is a practical working knowledge of what it means to follow Jesus.

The ministries and courses offered have practical wisdom to enrich the lives of those participating in them. They are designed to not just inform the mind but to give skills in making life more meaningful and significant. The ability to understand and apply the Scriptures in daily life will bring about the transforming element that is promised by Jesus.

My prayer is that you will take advantage of the opportunities presented this winter.

– Pastor Paul Vallee.
